Family Enjoying Boat Ride and Lake Activities — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1962, this vintage home movie captures a family enjoying a summer day at a lake in Illinois. A small boat floats near a rocky shoreline where people relax and play, while a low dam creates a gentle waterfall in the background. Classic American cars are parked nearby, and lush green trees frame the scene. The footage shows natural film grain, slight color fading, and a warm, nostalgic atmosphere characteristic of mid-century home movies.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Addresses requests for 1960s American family leisure footage shot on 8mm; suits documentary sequences on postwar suburban recreation or mid-century family life.
Period detail: Parked cars visible in the background may show early-1960s American automobile styling; the small boat and casual summer clothing on the figures are consistent with early-1960s leisure.
Home-movie behavior: An amateur cameraperson records family members around a small boat on a rocky shoreline, capturing the informal, unposed quality of a private family outing.
What appears in frame: Rocky boulder shoreline, low concrete weir with flowing spillway, small dark motorboat, adults in casual summer clothing, dense green deciduous trees, dark-bodied vintage cars parked under canopy, open water with reflections.
Film character: 8mm color stock shows visible grain, cool-shifted color fading, soft edge definition, and slight exposure variation — physical-film signatures that authenticate the early-1960s period.
Edit role: Works as an establishing cutaway or memory-beat insert in sequences about postwar American leisure, summer recreation, or mid-century family road-trip culture.
Historical context: Parked vehicles and recreational boating at a managed waterway reflect postwar American car culture and the broader expansion of working-class family leisure in the early 1960s.
Research note: Adult faces are visible and potentially identifiable; no model release is on file. No logos detected, but verify public-land status for the waterway and any incidentally captured vehicle plates.
Research search match: Likely found via searches such as '1960s family lake outing 8mm,' 'mid-century American summer recreation,' or 'vintage home movie boat river Illinois.'
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other clips from the same reel or Illinois location; then with 1960s Midwest outdoor family footage; then with vintage American waterway or summer recreation clips.
