Hagerstown Maryland Usaa-1963: Peacock In Enclosure With Blue Light Flares

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fits documentary, educational, or nature-archival requests for 1960s zoo or aviary footage showing exotic birds in an American public setting.

Period detail

Year is confirmed as 1963 by title metadata; the indoor enclosure architecture with wooden beams and single-pane windows may suggest a mid-century public zoo facility.

Home-movie behavior

Visitor-shot perspective captured opportunistically through glass or wire, filming an exotic bird at what appears to be a zoo or aviary without staging.

What appears in frame

A peacock silhouette in a dark interior enclosure, wire mesh fence, vivid green and blue tail feathers, heavy blue lens flares, windows admitting exterior light, and wooden structural elements.

Film character

Heavy 8mm grain, prominent blue lens flares dominating the darker frames, and exposure shifts between interior darkness and ambient exterior light create authentic 1960s home-movie texture.

Edit role

Works as a brief insert or memory-beat cutaway in nature documentary, zoo-history, or mid-century Americana sequences, with frame 3's clear tail-feather shot able to anchor the cut.

Historical context

Peacocks were common attractions at mid-century American zoos and aviaries; this visitor-shot clip reflects the recreational family outings to public animal facilities typical of early 1960s America.

Research note

No people or identifiable individuals appear in these frames; the enclosure facility is not specifically named, so property clearance status is unconfirmed — standard archive licensing terms apply.
