Hagerstown Maryland Usaa-1963: Large Colorful Peacock Walking In A Fenced Enclosure

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills 1960s American zoo or wildlife requests for authentic 8mm color footage of a captive exotic bird, suitable for documentary cutaways or mid-century nostalgia sequences.

Period detail

Wire mesh enclosure design and 8mm color palette suggest a mid-century American municipal zoo or aviary; title metadata places the footage in Hagerstown, Maryland, 1963.

Home-movie behavior

Filmed through the enclosure mesh from the visitor side, recording an unscripted, spontaneous view of the peacock's movement rather than a staged composition.

What appears in frame

Iridescent green-blue peacock, long trailing tail feathers, wire mesh screen overlay, pale concrete floor, cast shadows, green foliage in background, small secondary bird in foreground.

Film character

8mm grain and warm color saturation produce a period-accurate texture; the mesh screen imposes an additional visual layer that reinforces the archival, found-footage aesthetic.

Edit role

Suitable as a wildlife cutaway, nostalgic zoo-visit insert, or period detail beat within 1960s American family or daily-life sequences.

Historical context

Public zoo visits were widespread mid-century American leisure; peacock enclosures were a common feature of 1960s municipal zoo grounds.

Research note

No clearly identifiable individuals appear in most frames; a possible light-colored figure is visible through the mesh in one frame — verify before editorial use and confirm source reel rights.
