Tampa Florida USA-1960: A View From The Water Of A Big Mansion On The Water

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits documentary or commercial productions needing 1960s Florida waterfront location footage; well-matched to mid-century leisure, hospitality history, or Tampa Bay local history segments.

Period detail

The rooftop cursive sign reading "Pier 88 Restaurant Lounge," the multi-story mid-century modern facade with horizontal banding, and the large white vessel docked alongside are consistent with early 1960s Florida waterfront commercial architecture.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a moving vessel on the water, the camera pans slowly across the building — a leisure-boater's or tourist's spontaneous perspective rather than a staged promotional recording.

What appears in frame

Multi-story mid-century building with horizontal banding, rooftop sign reading "Pier 88 Restaurant Lounge," large white docked vessel, dense palm trees, calm waterway, clear sky, and characteristic 8mm oval vignetting border.

Film character

Characteristic 8mm oval vignetting frames each shot; a persistent cool blue-purple color cast and gentle handheld movement from water give the footage an authentic mid-century tourist-reel texture.

Edit role

Functions as an establishing cutaway or transitional insert in timelines covering 1960s Florida leisure culture, waterfront dining history, or Tampa Bay urban development.

Historical context

The legible "Pier 88 Restaurant Lounge" signage provides a datable visual record of a specific commercial waterfront venue, useful to historians researching mid-century Florida hospitality and waterfront land use.

Research note

The "Pier 88 Restaurant Lounge" brand name is clearly legible on the rooftop sign in all frames; producers should verify current trademark status and any architectural copyright before broadcast use; no identifiable persons are visible.
