Tampa Florida USA-1960: Glass Bottom Boat Mermaid At Marina With Tourists

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves documentary and commercial requests for mid-century American tourism, Florida travel, or maritime leisure; useful as a location establishing shot or cultural illustration for 1960s vacation-era productions.

Period detail

Visible signage, boat design, American flag on the dock, and color palette are consistent with early-1960s Florida tourism, with 'Pier 9' and 'See the Deep-Sea Diver in Action' promotional text clearly legible.

Home-movie behavior

Shot through a window frame, a classic tourist vantage point that preserves the visitor's-eye experience of the attraction rather than a staged or promotional view.

What appears in frame

White double-deck tour vessel, 'Glass Bottom Boat Mermaid' lettering, 'Pier 9' pier sign, American flag on dock pole, life preserver ring, window frame mullions, background marina masts, and at least one silhouetted figure on the dock.

Film character

Color 8mm with warm mid-tone shift typical of Kodachrome-era consumer stock, with window framing adding slight vignetting and bright outdoor light creating contrast between the open sky and shadowed areas under the boat deck.

Edit role

Works as a brief establishing cutaway or period-texture insert in a Florida travel or maritime tourism sequence, with the window-framed composition lending editorial intimacy.

Historical context

Glass-bottom boat tours were a signature feature of Florida's mid-century tourist economy, and the 'Pier 9' and 'deep-sea diver' tagline visible here reflect the showmanship typical of waterside attractions of the era.

Research note

Commercial business name and signage ('Glass Bottom Boat Mermaid,' Pier 9) are legible and may require trademark research; at least one figure is visible on the dock, so standard likeness review applies.
