View Of A Hotel Or Apartment With An Empty Swimming Pool... — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1959, this vintage home movie captures a retro motel or apartment complex in Nevada. The scene features a long, empty swimming pool surrounded by green lawns and a two-story building with balconies. A man in a light-colored shirt and dark pants walks along the poolside, while a white patio umbrella stands idle. The footage shows classic mid-century architecture, period-appropriate furniture on balconies, and the characteristic grain and color palette of 8mm home movies. This archival clip evokes a sense of quiet nostalgia and mid-century Americana.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports 1950s Nevada motel, apartment, or resort pool coverage for documentary cutaways, travel-history sequences, and mid-century leisure context.
Period detail: The two-story balcony building, patio furniture, poolside umbrella, and simple landscaped grounds may show late-1950s roadside lodging or apartment design.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged home-movie viewpoint, holding on a quiet pool courtyard as a man walks through the scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a long swimming pool, two-story balcony units, green lawn, patio umbrella, pool ladder, walkway, small garden light, and a walking man.
Film character: The 8mm scan shows soft focus, visible grain, slight exposure variation, and muted color that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief establishing insert, quiet transition, or memory beat for mid-century Nevada lodging and poolside leisure.
Historical context: The scene reflects a mid-century built environment centered on outdoor pool courtyards, without enough evidence to identify the property or city.
Research note: People and possible private property are visible, so likeness, property, and location review may be needed in addition to copyright checks.
Research search match: Useful for searches such as 1959 Nevada home movie motel pool, 8mm apartment courtyard, vintage hotel swimming pool, and mid-century resort exterior.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then Nevada 1959 exterior footage, then broader mid-century motel, pool, and roadside travel scenes.
