Young Elephant with Chained Foot at Zoo — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1957 at the Catskill Game Farm in New York, this vintage home movie captures a young elephant in its enclosure, chained at the foot. Visitors, including a woman in a pink dress and a man in a hat, observe from behind a wooden railing. The elephant moves slowly, its trunk extended, while dappled sunlight filters through the surrounding trees. The footage exhibits classic Super 8 grain, warm color tones, and a nostalgic, candid quality, offering a glimpse into mid-century zoo life and family outings.
