Catskill New York-1957: People Walking Past Large Sculpture Of Person Wearing Blue Overalls

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1950s Americana and mid-century leisure documentary requests; useful for fair or roadside-attraction sequences in educational, nostalgic, or regional-history productions.

Period detail

Visitors' clothing, including belted coats, casual jackets, and day dresses, along with the fairground's painted signage and metal structures, suggests late 1950s American leisure culture.

Home-movie behavior

An amateur camera operator moves from the oversized figure to the milling crowd, capturing the casual excitement of a family outing rather than any staged or planned shot.

What appears in frame

Large sculptural figure in blue overalls with raised arms, yellow rectangular placards on figure, green-roofed gazebo structure, white building facade, stone tower with red roof, dense crowd of visitors in 1950s casual attire.

Film character

8mm color stock shows characteristic grain, slight color shift toward warm yellows and faded blues, and handheld wobble that authenticates the amateur provenance.

Edit role

Works as an establishing cutaway for a 1950s leisure or tourism sequence, or as a memory-beat insert anchoring time and place in a regional or Americana documentary.

Historical context

The oversized promotional figure and fairground layout may reflect mid-century roadside attraction culture in upstate New York; the venue may be the Catskill Game Farm, a regional destination active by this era.

Research note

Multiple adult faces are clearly visible; filmed in a public setting but individual likeness clearance was not obtained, and copyright status of the underlying 8mm footage requires independent verification.
