Albany New York-1955: Woman Mowing Lawn in Suburban Yard

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits 1950s American suburban life segments in documentary, educational, or archival productions needing authentic domestic labor footage.

Period detail

The gas-powered rotary push mower, woman's blue jacket and dark slacks, brick house with painted white wood trim, and 8mm color palette are consistent with mid-1950s American suburban housing.

Home-movie behavior

Shot close by a family member recording a candid domestic chore, the woman leans into the mower without acknowledging the camera.

What appears in frame

Woman in blue jacket and dark slacks, green four-wheeled rotary push mower, red brick house exterior, white-painted wood trim, evergreen shrub, front entrance steps, green lawn, and gravel path edge.

Film character

Bright mid-century color saturation with characteristic 8mm grain, hard daylight shadows, dark frame borders typical of home movie stock, and a sprocket-hole artifact at the final frame edge.

Edit role

Works as a period insert or memory-beat cutaway in 1950s suburban or domestic labor sequences; its five-second brevity suits a single montage cut.

Historical context

Lawn care became a weekly ritual in postwar American suburbs; push-mower ownership was a visible marker of homeownership during the 1950s housing expansion.

Research note

An identifiable adult woman appears throughout all frames; editorial or documentary fair use may apply, but producers should assess jurisdiction-specific likeness rights before commercial use.
