Albany New York-1955: Two Middle-Aged Women Walking Across A Lawn In Formal Attire

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1950s American suburban life documentary requests — women's formal dress, vintage automobiles, and mid-century domestic scenes captured in original 8mm home-movie color.

Period detail

Women's formal pleated skirt, white jacket, and heeled shoes alongside a rounded-body vintage dark-blue automobile may suggest a mid-1950s American suburban social occasion.

Home-movie behavior

The handheld camera follows the women at near-ground level, catching the natural sway of a pleated skirt and unposed approach to a parked car — a candid family record rather than a staged shot.

What appears in frame

Woman in white jacket and dark pleated skirt; second woman with dark upswept hair near vintage blue car; sunlit green lawn; man in dark suit and hat; white clapboard house with teal shutters; figure in window; foreground shrubs.

Film character

Color 8mm stock renders saturated blues and greens with visible grain and mild motion blur on walking figures, giving the footage an authentic mid-century home-movie texture.

Edit role

Works as a period insert or transitional cutaway in a 1950s American suburban narrative — the scene shift from formally dressed women to a man outside a house provides a natural beat.

Historical context

Formal attire, white gloves, and a late-model vintage American automobile on a private lawn suggest a post-war Northeast suburban occasion, likely a family or ceremonial gathering.

Research note

Identifiable adult faces appear across multiple frames; likeness rights cannot be assumed cleared, and the residential exterior visible in the final scene warrants additional property release review.
