An Outdoor Pool In A Wooded Location With Patio Furniture — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1953, this vintage home movie captures a sun-drenched backyard in Palm Desert, California. A long, rectangular swimming pool reflects the bright sky, surrounded by a purple-tinted concrete deck. Retro metal-framed patio chairs with green fabric sit near the water, with a circular fire pit visible in the foreground. Lush green trees and tall palm fronds frame the scene, with classic 1950s automobiles parked in the background. The footage exhibits natural film grain and color shifts typical of Super 8 home movies, evoking a nostalgic mid-century American lifestyle.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1950s California leisure, backyard pool, and mid-century outdoor living cutaways in documentary, museum, education, or commercial archive edits.
Period detail: Visible clues include metal-framed patio chairs, a rectangular pool, parked mid-century automobiles, palm trees, and saturated 8mm color consistent with the supplied 1953 Palm Desert metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged home-movie perspective, observing a quiet poolside setting without visible people or directed action.
What appears in frame: The frames show a swimming pool, concrete deck, green patio chairs, a round fire pit or planter, palms, dense trees, parked cars, and strong sun reflections on water.
Film character: The 8mm scan carries heavy grain, soft focus, color shifts, dark frame edges, and uneven exposure that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief insert, memory beat, establishing cutaway, or transition for mid-century desert leisure and domestic outdoor space.
Historical context: The scene suggests postwar California recreation and domestic poolside life, while the frames do not identify a specific residence, family, or public venue.
Research note: No people, faces, logos, or readable brands are visible, but copyright, location, and property permissions should still be checked for the intended use.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1953 8mm Palm Desert pool footage, mid-century California patio furniture, vintage backyard swimming pool, and home-movie desert leisure.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent same-reel Palm Desert material, then other 1953 California outdoor scenes, then broader mid-century pool, patio, and vacation footage.
