Largest Alligators Augustine Alligator Farm Sign — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1952, this vintage home movie captures a scene at the Augustine Alligator Farm in Quebec, Canada. The footage shows several alligators resting on a sandy enclosure, with a prominent yellow sign reading 'LARGEST ALLIGATORS' and 'AUGUSTINE ALLIGATOR FARM' in bold lettering. The grainy, color-graded film has a nostalgic, archival quality, with warm tones and slight motion blur typical of Super 8 footage. The setting appears to be a roadside attraction, with the alligators basking under daylight.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1950s color 8mm footage for requests needing a roadside animal attraction sign, alligator enclosure, or travel-memory insert from Quebec, Canada.
Period detail: The hand-painted yellow lettering, simple outdoor pen, and soft 8mm color may show mid-century tourist-attraction signage and display practices.
Home-movie behavior: The camera holds from a visitor's viewpoint, treating the sign and resting alligators as a quick vacation record rather than a staged scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a dark sign with yellow lettering, several alligators on sand, a low white rail, enclosure edges, trees, and strong daylight.
Film character: The clip has visible 8mm grain, soft focus, handheld framing, gate edges, and slight exposure variation that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a cutaway, location-establishing insert, roadside-attraction beat, or brief transition in a travel or animal-display sequence.
Historical context: The footage documents a visitor-facing alligator display and sign presentation, offering social context for mid-century leisure stops without proving broader institutional history.
Research note: The business name on the sign should be reviewed as a visible brand or attraction identifier; no people are visible, but copyright and property issues remain separate.
Research search match: Useful search phrases include 1950s 8mm alligator farm sign, Augustine Alligator Farm Quebec, vintage roadside attraction, and alligators in enclosure.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1952 Quebec travel footage, then broader roadside attraction or animal enclosure material.
