Sunset over Ocean from Sailboat — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1945, this vintage clip captures a serene sunset over the ocean from the deck of a sailboat. The sun glows golden at the horizon, casting a deep purple hue across the water and sky, with the boat's mast and rigging silhouetted in the foreground. Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1940s French 8mm home-movie footage for documentary or museum edits needing a quiet maritime sunset insert or memory transition.
Period detail: The small-gauge color image, silhouetted mast, and rigging may show a mid-1940s sailboat view filmed from onboard rather than a formal scenic setup.
Home-movie behavior: The camera holds on the fading sun through rigging, giving the scene the personal patience of someone recording a private moment at sea.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a low sun, purple sky, ocean horizon, silhouetted mast, rigging lines, sailboat structure, and dark frame edges.
Film character: The clip has dense 8mm grain, soft focus, saturated magenta-purple color shift, and slight exposure variation typical of scanned home-movie film.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a reflective cutaway, end-of-day transition, sea-travel insert, or quiet memory beat between more literal scenes.
Historical context: The footage offers a personal maritime view from France in 1945 without visible landmarks or evidence of a specific public event.
Research note: People are flagged at clip level, so likeness review is advised even though these sampled sunset frames show no identifiable faces or brands.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1945 France 8mm sailboat sunset, vintage ocean horizon from boat, and 1940s home movie at sea.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then other France 1945 travel material, then broader 1940s sailing, ocean, sunset, and home-movie memory footage.
