Poinsettia Flowers in Bloom — Clip Details

A vintage 8mm home movie from Kauai, Hawaii, in 1944 captures a vibrant display of poinsettia flowers in full bloom. The footage shows a lush, tropical garden with bright red poinsettias growing along a low stone wall, set against a backdrop of dense green foliage and palm trees under a clear sky. The film exhibits classic Super 8 characteristics, including soft focus, natural color saturation, and subtle grain, evoking a nostalgic, mid-century American vacation atmosphere. The sequence begins with a title card reading 'Poinsettas' before transitioning to the floral scene.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s Hawaii home-movie requests needing a brief color garden cutaway or tropical floral insert for documentary, museum, education, or editorial use.
Period detail: The title card spelling and soft 8mm color garden view support a mid-1940s home-movie context, with Kauai and 1944 supplied by clip metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The scene has a visitor-shot home-movie perspective, pausing on a labeled title card before a simple record of bright poinsettias along a garden wall.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a typed title card, red poinsettia blooms, leafy shrubs, palm trees, a low stone wall, lawn, and dark film-frame edges.
Film character: The footage shows soft focus, saturated reversal-style color, visible grain, slight exposure variation, and contact-frame borders consistent with scanned 8mm material.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short botanical insert, tropical location transition, vacation-memory beat, or visual bridge into Hawaii garden material.
Historical context: The clip visually documents ornamental plantings in a tropical outdoor setting, without showing people, public events, or identifiable landmarks in the sampled frames.
Research note: No people, logos, or audible music are indicated, but copyright, collection permissions, and any property or location rights should still be reviewed before use.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1940s Kauai home movie poinsettia flowers, vintage 8mm Hawaii garden footage, tropical blooms, and red flowers along a stone wall.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other Kauai 1944 garden or travel scenes, then broader tropical flowers and vintage Hawaii home movies.
