Pink Lotus and Yellow Water Lily — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1943, this vintage home movie captures a serene pond scene in Washington DC. A delicate pink lotus blossom sways gently among large green lily pads, its petals softly unfurling in the breeze. The footage transitions to a bright yellow water lily floating on the dark water, surrounded by lily pads and reeds. The film exhibits natural grain, slight color fading, and a soft focus characteristic of mid-century home movies, evoking a quiet, nostalgic atmosphere.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s Washington, DC nature or garden cutaways where an editor needs quiet 8mm home-movie footage of pond flowers and lily pads.
Period detail: The frames show no datable buildings, clothing, or signage, so the 1943 Washington, DC setting is supported by metadata rather than visible era clues.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a visitor-shot home-movie perspective, lingering on flowers and pond surfaces without staging, narration, or visible people.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a pink lotus blossom, a yellow water lily, broad green lily pads, dark pond water, reeds, soft foliage, and frame-edge shadows.
Film character: The footage carries 8mm film texture with soft focus, visible grain, muted color, slight exposure variation, and gentle handheld framing.
Edit role: Editors can use it as a nature insert, reflective transition, garden cutaway, or calm memory beat within archival sequences.
Historical context: As home-movie footage, it documents a quiet mid-century outdoor observation of aquatic plants rather than a public event or identifiable landmark.
Research note: No people, faces, logos, or obvious private property are visible, but copyright, location documentation, and plant-site identification should be reviewed separately.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1940s 8mm pond flowers, Washington DC home movie lily pads, vintage lotus footage, and yellow water lily archival cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1943 Washington, DC material, then broader vintage garden, pond, flower, and nature footage.
