Yellow Lilies and Purple Flowers by Pond — Clip Details

A vintage 8mm home movie from 1943 captures a delicate yellow water lily in soft focus, its petals gently unfurling against dark green lily pads. The scene transitions to a wider view of a tranquil garden pond, where vibrant purple lavender-like flowers bloom among large leaves, swaying slightly in a gentle breeze. A weeping willow tree frames the background, its branches draping over the water. The footage exhibits classic Super 8 film grain, warm color tones, and a nostalgic, serene atmosphere, evoking a peaceful summer day in a private garden.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s-era archival requests needing quiet garden, pond, or floral home-movie cutaways from Washington, DC footage.
Period detail: The frames show ornamental pond plantings and soft handheld 8mm color, while no visible landmark or dated object independently confirms the 1943 setting.
Home-movie behavior: The camera lingers on flowers and pond foliage from a close visitor or family-film perspective, emphasizing a calm private garden moment without staged action.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a yellow water lily, broad lily pads, purple flower spikes, pond greenery, a drooping willow-like tree, dark frame edges, and soft garden background.
Film character: The clip has the warm color, soft focus, visible grain, rounded frame edges, and slight handheld instability associated with scanned 8mm home-movie film.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a nature insert, seasonal transition, reflective memory beat, or quiet visual bridge within a 1940s home-movie sequence.
Historical context: The footage records domestic or leisure attention to garden scenery, showing ornamental pond plants rather than public events or identifiable civic locations.
Research note: No people, logos, or brands are visible, but copyright, location access, and any property-related permissions should be reviewed separately before use.
Research search match: Researchers may find this under 1940s 8mm garden pond footage, yellow water lily home movie, Washington DC archival flowers, or vintage color nature cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent frames from the same reel, then other Washington, DC 1943 home movies, then broader 1940s garden, pond, and floral nature footage.
