Men Picking Ripe Fruits During Autumn Harvest — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1943, this vintage home movie captures a rural harvest scene at Skyline Drive, Virginia. Two men stand in a field under a twilight sky, one carrying a large basket, likely filled with freshly picked ripe fruits. The man in the foreground wears a patterned vest and light-colored pants, while the other is in dark clothing. The surrounding landscape features autumnal trees with vibrant red and orange leaves against a dusky purple sky, evoking a nostalgic, rustic atmosphere. The footage shows natural film grain and slight motion blur, characteristic of Super 8 home movies from the era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1940s 8mm home-movie footage suited to documentary or educational requests for rural autumn labor, informal harvest activity, and wartime-era leisure travel in Virginia.
Period detail: The clothing, 8mm color stock, and metadata-supported 1943 setting may show mid-1940s rural dress and outdoor harvest practice without identifiable machinery or signage.
Home-movie behavior: The men appear aware of the camera but remain in an informal field setting, giving the clip the value of a personal travel or family record rather than a staged commercial scene.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include two adult men, a large shoulder basket, tall grass, low hills, autumn trees, red-orange foliage, and a pale twilight sky.
Film character: The clip has warm color shift, soft focus, visible grain, handheld framing, and uneven exposure that read as authentic physical 8mm home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a brief insert, seasonal transition, harvest cutaway, or memory beat within a sequence about rural Virginia, autumn travel, or home-front life.
Historical context: The footage places people in a rural autumn landscape near Skyline Drive, offering visual context for informal food gathering or harvest activity without documenting a specific farm or event.
Research note: People and faces are visible, so likeness review may be needed; no logos or private-property details are apparent, and copyright status should be assessed separately from depiction rights.
Research search match: Likely researcher matches include 1940s 8mm harvest footage, Skyline Drive Virginia home movie, autumn fruit picking, rural men with basket, and vintage color field scene.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1943 Skyline Drive material, then broader 1940s rural harvest, autumn foliage, or home-movie travel footage.
