A Monumental Statue Surrounded By Water — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1947, this vintage home movie captures a monumental statue in Paris, France, standing on a stone base surrounded by water. The black-and-white footage shows a figure in formal attire, possibly a soldier or historical figure, with a draped cloak and a rifle. The camera slowly pans across the monument, revealing its base and the surrounding waterway, with a curved stone structure visible in the background. The grainy texture and soft focus are characteristic of mid-century amateur film, offering a nostalgic glimpse of post-war Parisian landmarks.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s Paris archive requests needing a brief landmark or monument cutaway from real amateur 8mm travel footage.
Period detail: The black-and-white 8mm image, formal stone monument, and metadata-supported 1947 Paris setting place the view in the immediate postwar travel-film period.
Home-movie behavior: The clip carries a visitor-shot perspective, with the camera panning close across a waterside statue rather than presenting a staged or official view.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a monumental standing figure, stone plinth, water surface, curved masonry structure, dark film-frame edges, and soft-focus architectural detail.
Film character: The footage has pronounced 8mm grain, soft contrast, mild gate framing, and handheld movement that read as physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short Paris landmark insert, reflective transition, or memory beat within a postwar travel or urban-history sequence.
Historical context: The view documents how a Paris monument and surrounding water feature appeared to an amateur traveler in the late 1940s, without identifying the landmark definitively.
Research note: No people, faces, logos, or private interiors are visible, but landmark identification, copyright status, and any property-related concerns should still be reviewed.
Research search match: Search matches include 1947 Paris 8mm monument footage, black-and-white home movie of waterside statue, and postwar France landmark cutaway.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with neighboring shots from the same reel, then with 1947 Paris travel views, and then with broader European monument or waterside landmark footage.
