Field Of Dried Grass With Mountain In Back Cut To... — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures a vast, arid landscape in Idaho. The sequence opens on a field of dried grass under a purple-tinged sky, with a prominent mountain in the distance. The camera slowly pans to reveal a distant industrial complex, possibly a power plant, nestled in the plain. The final frames shift to a dramatic sky, where dark clouds part to reveal radiant sunbeams breaking through, creating a powerful natural light effect. The footage exhibits classic Super 8 grain and color shifts, evoking a nostalgic, documentary-style view of the American West.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1970s Idaho 8mm landscape footage for productions needing rural Western plains, distant mountains, and dramatic sky cutaways.
Period detail: The 1972 home-movie scan may show an arid Idaho plain with distant utility or industrial structures, though no specific landmark is identifiable.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has the observational feel of a traveler pausing on open land, then turning attention from the horizon to changing light in the clouds.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include dried grassland, a distant mountain, low horizon, small far-off structures, purple sky, dark clouds, and sunbeams.
Film character: The 8mm image shows coarse grain, magenta-purple color shift, soft focus, gate edges, and slight handheld framing typical of scanned home-movie film.
Edit role: Editors can use it as a rural establishing insert, weather transition, reflective landscape beat, or cutaway from earthbound plains to sky.
Historical context: The footage records a non-urban Western landscape as seen by an amateur camera, with infrastructure faintly present on the plain.
Research note: No people, logos, or readable brands are visible, but copyright and any property or site-identification questions should still be reviewed.
Research search match: Useful searches include 1972 Idaho 8mm landscape, dried grass field mountain, rural Western sky, sunbeams through clouds, and vintage home movie plains.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1972 Idaho footage, then broader rural West, mountain horizon, or cloud-and-sun landscape material.
