Scorched Volcanic Crater Landscape — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures a desolate volcanic landscape in Idaho. The footage shows a vast, scorched crater with dark, rocky slopes and a rugged, uneven terrain under a bright sky with scattered clouds. The camera pans slowly across the barren, reddish-brown earth, emphasizing the raw, untouched nature of the volcanic site. The grainy texture and color saturation typical of Super 8 film add to the nostalgic, archival quality of the clip. This raw, unfiltered footage offers a powerful glimpse into a remote natural wonder, ideal for documentaries, historical projects, or nostalgic content.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1970s 8mm Idaho volcanic-landscape footage for documentary inserts, education programs, museum media, or archive-led natural history sequences.
Period detail: The metadata supports 1972 Idaho, while the frames show only an analog home-movie view of barren volcanic slopes under a bright sky.
Home-movie behavior: The slow handheld pan reads as a visitor recording the terrain from a lookout or path rather than a staged scenic production shot.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include dark crater walls, reddish-brown cinder slopes, rough lava rock, distant low ridges, scattered clouds, and film-gate borders.
Film character: The scan carries 8mm grain, saturated earth tones, soft focus, exposure variation, and contact-sheet frame edges that signal original home-movie film texture.
Edit role: An editor can use this as a brief cutaway, geographic establishing insert, transition into volcanic terrain, or reflective memory beat about western landscapes.
Historical context: The footage documents a recreational or observational view of a volcanic landscape without visible people, structures, vehicles, signage, or interpretive context.
Research note: No people, logos, or obvious private property are visible, but users should still assess copyright, location identification, and project-specific property concerns.
Research search match: Useful searches include 1970s Idaho 8mm volcanic crater, vintage home movie lava field, barren cinder landscape, and western U.S. volcanic terrain.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1972 Idaho landscapes, then broader 1970s volcanic terrain or arid western scenery.
