Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures a scenic view of a volcanic landscape in Idaho. The clip opens with a close-up of a park informational sign labeling key geological features: North Crater, Pioneer Mountains, and Sunset Cone. The scene then transitions to wide shots of the rugged terrain, showcasing a prominent dark volcanic cone under a bright blue sky with scattered white clouds. Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports 1970s documentary requests for visitor-shot Idaho volcanic landscape footage, especially natural-area inserts, geology context, and archival travel sequences.
Period detail: The 8mm color, rounded frame edges, and photographed interpretive diagram may show a 1972 visitor perspective on a volcanic park landscape in Idaho.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged tourist-observation quality, moving from a labeled landscape guide to wide views of cones, ridges, brush, and open sky.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a hand-drawn park diagram, labels for North Crater and Sunset Cone, dark volcanic cones, distant mountains, scrub vegetation, clouds, and blue sky.
Film character: The footage carries 8mm grain, saturated color, slight softness, and uneven exposure that read as physical home-movie texture from an outdoor daylight scan.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a brief establishing insert, geology cutaway, travel-memory beat, or transition from interpretive signage to the surrounding landscape.
Historical context: The views document a visitor-facing presentation of volcanic terrain and open western landscape without visible people, vehicles, buildings, or commercial signage.
Research note: No people or logos are visible, but copyright, location identification, park signage status, and any property or agency permissions should still be reviewed.
Research search match: Useful for searches such as 1972 Idaho 8mm volcanic landscape, home movie park sign cone crater, and vintage lava field mountain view.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with nearby shots from the same reel, then other 1972 Idaho park footage, then broader vintage geology, volcano, crater, and western landscape material.
