Cute Small Animal Grooms Its Fur In The Woods — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures a small wild animal, likely a chipmunk or squirrel, grooming its fur on a rocky outcrop in a natural woodland setting. The footage shows the animal moving carefully among the rocks, its light-colored fur contrasting with the purplish-blue, grainy texture of the stone. The scene transitions to a patch of green bushes with small orange berries, suggesting a late summer or autumn environment in Idaho. The film exhibits classic Super 8 characteristics: soft focus, color shifts, and natural grain, evoking a nostalgic, archival feel. This authentic wildlife moment is ideal for documentaries, nature projects, or nostalgic content.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s Idaho home-movie requests needing a brief wildlife cutaway of a small animal in a wooded, rocky setting.
Period detail: The 1972 date is supplied by metadata; the frames themselves mainly show natural terrain, soft color shift, and 8mm texture rather than datable objects.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has the patient, unstaged feel of a home-movie operator observing a small wild animal at close range before drifting to nearby brush.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a small pale-furred animal, dark rock openings, lichen-like stone texture, scrubby bushes, orange berries, dry soil, and film gate edges.
Film character: The scan carries pronounced 8mm grain, soft focus, purplish color bias, slight exposure variation, and contact-sheet frame borders that read as physical-film texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a short wildlife insert, nature cutaway, seasonal transition, or quiet memory beat within a broader Idaho or home-movie sequence.
Historical context: The footage documents a casual encounter with woodland wildlife and surrounding vegetation without visible people, buildings, signage, or modern infrastructure.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, but species identification appears uncertain and copyright or source-license status should be checked separately.
Research search match: Researcher searches may include 1972 Idaho 8mm wildlife, home movie chipmunk or squirrel grooming, small animal on rocks, and vintage woodland bushes with berries.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with other shots from the same reel, then Idaho 1972 outdoor footage, then similar vintage wildlife, woodland, rocks, and berry-bush cutaways.
