Barren Wasteland With Cracked Earth And Distant Hills — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures a desolate, rocky landscape in Idaho. The footage reveals a vast, barren wasteland with a textured, cracked surface resembling dried lava or mud flats under a pale sky. Sparse vegetation and distant hills frame the scene, with a dark silhouette visible on the right. The film exhibits classic Super 8 grain, color shifts, and a natural vignette, conveying a sense of isolation and geological stillness from a bygone era.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s Idaho landscape requests needing barren terrain, geological texture, or remote environmental cutaways from real 8mm home-movie footage.
Period detail: The frames show little date-specific detail beyond the 8mm color and exposure qualities, with the 1972 Idaho context supported by the clip metadata rather than visible signage.
Home-movie behavior: The footage has an unstaged visitor perspective, holding on rough ground and distant hills without people, vehicles, narration, or arranged action.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include cracked rocky ground, pale sky, low distant hills, sparse brush, dark frame edges, and a rocky rise at the right edge.
Film character: The clip carries dense 8mm grain, purple color shift, uneven exposure, soft focus, and contact-sheet edge vignetting as part of its archival film texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a stark landscape insert, environmental cutaway, transition beat, or visual pause within a 1970s travel or regional-history sequence.
Historical context: The scene visually documents an arid or volcanic-looking Idaho landscape as seen by a home-movie camera, without evidence of settlement, industry, or public event.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, but users should still evaluate copyright, location identification, and contextual claims before publication.
Research search match: Matches searches for 1972 Idaho 8mm landscape footage, barren rocky terrain, cracked earth home movie, remote wasteland cutaway, and vintage desert-like ground.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1972 Idaho footage, then broader barren landscape, rocky terrain, or geological texture clips.
