Barren Volcanic Landscape With Lava Fields And Distant... — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this vintage home movie captures a desolate volcanic landscape in Idaho, USA. The camera pans across a rugged terrain of dark, jagged lava rock under a clear blue sky, with distant mountains forming a stark horizon. The grainy, slightly faded color palette and visible film borders evoke a strong sense of retro nostalgia. This archival footage offers a rare glimpse of a lifeless, geologically active region, perfect for historical or nature documentaries.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1970s 8mm Idaho landscape footage for documentary, museum, education, or editorial sequences needing volcanic terrain, lava fields, and remote Western U.S. geology.
Period detail: The visible era clues are mainly the 8mm home-movie scan, faded color, handheld framing, and film borders rather than built objects or clothing.
Home-movie behavior: The clip reflects a traveler or family filmmaker pausing to pan across an austere lava-field vista from ground level.
What appears in frame: The frames show jagged dark lava rock, sparse desert plants, distant low mountains, a pale horizon, clear blue sky, and visible 8mm frame borders.
Film character: Grain, soft focus, slight color fading, and gate edges give the shot a recognizable 1970s home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use it as a brief establishing insert, geographic cutaway, road-trip transition, or memory beat for volcanic landscape material.
Historical context: The footage documents a visitor's view of a barren Idaho volcanic landscape without visible people, vehicles, buildings, or interpretive signage.
Research note: No people, brands, or private property are visible, but copyright, location identification, and any use-specific permissions should still be reviewed.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1972 Idaho 8mm lava field, vintage volcanic landscape, barren Western U.S. geology footage, and home movie desert mountains.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1972 Idaho landscapes, then broader volcanic terrain, geology, or road-trip archive footage.
