Underwater Image Of The Bottom On A River With A — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1972, this clip captures a grainy, purple-tinted underwater view of a riverbed at Holland Lake, Montana. The image shows a textured bottom with scattered twigs and debris, likely filmed with a handheld camera. The distinctive purple coloration suggests infrared or filtered lighting, creating a surreal, dreamlike quality. The footage is a rare example of vintage home movie footage from the early 1970s, offering a nostalgic glimpse into a forgotten moment of nature observation.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1970s nature, underwater, or home-movie insert requests needing abstract riverbed or lake-bottom footage from Montana.
Period detail: The 8mm source, heavy grain, purple-blue cast, and handheld framing support an early 1970s home-movie context rather than a polished scientific record.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has the observational feel of a person testing a camera underwater, lingering on sediment, twigs, and small movement near the bottom.
What appears in frame: Visible details include silty bottom texture, crossing twigs, a vertical pale stick, small debris, faint plant matter, and a possible worm-like animal.
Film character: The footage carries dense 8mm grain, soft focus, uneven exposure, and a strong purple tint that become part of its archival texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief cutaway, memory beat, transition, or atmospheric insert for water, ecology, camping, or outdoor recreation sequences.
Historical context: The view reflects amateur nature observation in a Montana lake or river setting, with no visible people, structures, signage, or identifiable activity.
Research note: No people, logos, or private property are visible, but copyright status and any location-specific use questions should still be reviewed separately.
Research search match: Search phrases may include 1972 8mm underwater riverbed, Holland Lake Montana home movie, purple tinted water bottom, and vintage nature footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then with Holland Lake or Montana 1972 material, then with broader vintage underwater nature footage.
