Henry Latrobe Roosevelt Statue And Headstone — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1970, this vintage home movie captures a solemn view of the Henry Latrobe Roosevelt equestrian statue and his gravestone at a historic cemetery in Washington DC. The footage shows the bronze monument of a soldier on horseback surrounded by trees, followed by a close-up of the engraved headstone commemorating Lieutenant Colonel U.S. Marine Corps and Assistant Secretary of the Navy. The final frames reveal the broader cemetery landscape with a classical building on a hill, all rendered in the authentic grain and color palette of 1970s Super 8 film. Archive brief fit: 1970 8mm Washington DC cemetery footage suited for documentary cutaways on American memorial culture, Roosevelt family references, veterans, or historic public monuments.
Period detail: The clip shows 1970-era home-movie views of a bronze equestrian statue, a military headstone, trimmed cemetery grounds, and a classical building on a hill.
Home-movie behavior: The camera observes the memorials from a visitor's viewpoint, moving from monument detail to grave marker and then to a wider cemetery landscape.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include an equestrian statue, engraved headstone, cemetery markers, green lawn, mature trees, a flagpole, and a classical colonnaded building.
Film character: The 8mm scan has soft focus, visible grain, muted color, gate edges, and slight handheld instability that preserve the physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief insert, cemetery establishing shot, memorial cutaway, or reflective transition in a history or biography sequence.
Historical context: The footage visually connects public commemoration, military service, and family burial markers without documenting a ceremony or public event.
Research note: No people or brands are visible, but the named grave marker, cemetery setting, military reference, and monument identity should be checked for context and permissions needs.
