Men Refueling Vehicle at Mobil Gas Station — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1949 in San Diego, California, showing a group of men at a Mobil gas station. A man in a white shirt and cap pumps fuel into a large, rounded vehicle tank, likely a tractor or early vehicle, while others observe. A uniformed attendant in a cap and sunglasses stands nearby, adjusting his hat. The scene features classic 1940s attire, including hats and light-colored shirts, against a bright red Mobil truck with bold white lettering. The film exhibits natural grain, slight color fading, and authentic 8mm motion, capturing a nostalgic moment of mid-century Americana and everyday life.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1940s documentary requests needing everyday California service-station activity, fuel handling, or mid-century roadside Americana.
Period detail: The Mobil lettering, uniformed attendant, caps, sunglasses, and rounded vehicle tank support a late-1940s service-station setting in San Diego.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has an unstaged observer quality, with men standing around the pump area while one man appears to handle the fuel nozzle.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a red Mobil vehicle or sign, a fuel nozzle, a rounded vehicle tank, men in caps, a uniformed attendant, sunglasses, and bright outdoor light.
Film character: The 8mm footage shows warm color, visible grain, slight softness, and handheld framing that preserve the physical home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short insert, transition, or cutaway for fuel stops, roadside commerce, or postwar everyday-life sequences.
Historical context: The scene shows a small group gathered around refueling equipment, suggesting ordinary service-station interaction rather than a staged commercial setup.
Research note: Visible faces and Mobil branding require review for likeness, trademark, and contextual use; copyright status and releases should be assessed separately.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1940s San Diego gas station footage, Mobil refueling home movie, vintage service station attendant, and 8mm roadside Americana.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent reel material, then other 1949 San Diego clips, then broader gas station, vehicle, and mid-century California street-life footage.
