Statue of Liberty Circled from Boat — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1946 showing the Statue of Liberty in New York from a distance across the water. The clip exhibits classic film grain, scratches, and dust marks typical of archival Super 8 footage. The iconic green statue stands on its pedestal on Liberty Island, viewed through a hazy, overcast sky. The camera appears to be moving, offering a slightly shifting perspective of the landmark from a boat or distant shore. The image is soft-focused and slightly blurred, with a muted color palette of greens, grays, and blues, capturing a nostalgic, historic moment of early 20th-century Americana.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1940s 8mm landmark footage suited for documentary inserts about New York Harbor, postwar travel, tourism, or immigrant-memory visual context.
Period detail: The distant Statue of Liberty view, muted color, and 8mm texture support a mid-1940s home-movie travel record, though no dated signage or people are visible.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has a visitor-shot perspective from across the water, with the landmark held at a distance as the camera or vessel shifts slightly.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include the Statue of Liberty, pedestal, Liberty Island shoreline, surrounding water, hazy sky, dark frame borders, and vertical film marks.
Film character: Soft focus, visible grain, dust, scratches, mild exposure variation, and gate edges give the footage a physical 8mm home-movie character.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief establishing insert, travel transition, harbor cutaway, or reflective memory beat for New York landmark material.
Historical context: The footage visually places the Statue of Liberty within a quiet harbor view, emphasizing distance, haze, and visitor observation rather than civic ceremony.
Research note: No people, logos, or audible music are indicated, but users should still review copyright status and any landmark or location-use requirements for their project.
Research search match: Useful search matches include 1940s 8mm Statue of Liberty, New York Harbor home movie, Liberty Island from water, and vintage landmark travel footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then other 1946 New York or harbor views, then broader 1940s travel and landmark home movies.
