Small Plane With Top-Mounted Propeller Turning — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1963 in Volmer Yucaipa, California, showing a unique small aircraft with a pusher propeller mounted on top of the fuselage. The plane, marked with registration N2228, sits on a grass airfield under a cloudy sky, its propeller slowly turning. The film exhibits classic Super 8 grain, color distortion, and a purple tint characteristic of 1960s amateur footage. The camera remains stationary, capturing the aircraft from a side angle as it prepares for takeoff or idles on the field. This authentic archival clip offers a nostalgic glimpse into mid-century aviation and personal filmmaking.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: 1963 8mm aviation home-movie footage suited for documentary inserts about small aircraft, airfield activity, or mid-century amateur filming in Southern California.
Period detail: The aircraft registration, grass field, soft color 8mm image, and 1963 metadata may show a small private aviation scene in Volmer Yucaipa, California.
Home-movie behavior: The stationary side view gives an unstaged home-movie record of a distinctive small plane idling or preparing on a local airfield.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a small aircraft, top-mounted pusher propeller, registration N2228, grass runway, low buildings, cloudy sky, and film-frame borders.
Film character: The scan carries 8mm grain, soft focus, slight gate edges, uneven exposure, and a purple color shift typical of aged amateur color film.
Edit role: An editor could use this as an aviation cutaway, a memory beat, or a transition into scenes about private flying, technology, or 1960s leisure.
Historical context: The clip visually documents a small aircraft on a modest airfield, suggesting local private aviation without identifying the aircraft model or operator.
Research note: No people are visible, but the aircraft registration and any visible markings should be reviewed separately from copyright, property, or trademark concerns.
Research search match: Researchers might search for 1963 8mm small aircraft, top-mounted propeller plane, grass airfield home movie, or Yucaipa California aviation footage.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then with 1963 Volmer Yucaipa material, then with other small-aircraft or airfield home movies.
