Gainsville Florida USA-1975: One Large Apartment Building With Mid-Century Design

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves 1970s urban-development or Florida-growth documentary requests needing an exterior architectural shot of mid-century high-rise residential construction.

Period detail

The repeating grid of windows and flat roofline suggest mid-century modernist residential design consistent with Florida apartment construction of the 1970s.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from an elevated vantage point — likely a neighbouring building — giving it the unscripted, visitor-perspective quality typical of amateur 8mm footage.

What appears in frame

Tall multi-storey apartment block, uniform grid of windows, recessed balconies, flat roof parapet, lower adjoining rooftop in foreground, tree canopy at street level, overcast pale sky, faint distant treeline.

Film character

Mild colour fade toward cool tones, visible film grain, and slight vignetting at frame edges give the footage an authentic 8mm home-movie texture.

Edit role

Works as an establishing shot or transitional cutaway in sequences about 1970s Florida urban growth, suburban development, or residential architecture history.

Historical context

Gainesville, Florida experienced significant residential construction growth in the early-to-mid 1970s, and this high-rise appears consistent with that period of expansion.

Research note

No people, faces, or identifiable signage visible; the building as architecture may carry its own copyright considerations — rights holder confirmation advised before commercial use.
