Gainsville Florida USA-1974: An Old Gothic-Style Building Has A Covered Porch

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Fills 1970s American South institutional architecture requests; useful as documentary B-roll establishing a Florida historic building or religious-civic landmark in the mid-1970s.

Period detail

The pronounced purple-violet color shift is consistent with aged 8mm reversal or print stock; summer foliage and overcast sky support the metadata date of 1974.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from street level with a slowly panning handheld camera, suggesting a visitor documenting a notable local landmark rather than a casual domestic recording.

What appears in frame

Gothic Revival brick building with cylindrical battlemented tower, ornate covered porch with decorative columns and entry steps, pointed gabled dormers with finials, dense summer deciduous trees, and a decorative fence visible in the final frame.

Film character

Pronounced purple-violet color cast from aged 8mm emulsion, visible grain structure, and natural handheld drift give the footage an authentic period-document texture.

Edit role

Works as an establishing cutaway for 1970s Florida documentary segments or a period-architecture insert in features on mid-century religious or civic institutions.

Historical context

Gothic Revival masonry at this scale was common for late-19th and early-20th century religious or university campus buildings in the American South; the specific structure is not independently verified.

Research note

Exterior architectural shot with no people visible; the building may carry institutional or property rights — researchers should independently verify the structure's identity before editorial use.
