Gainsville Florida USA-1974: Getting Married By The Priest

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Serves documentary and editorial requests for 1970s American wedding or religious ceremony footage, particularly mid-decade domestic rites captured on 8mm.

Period detail

The groom's chartreuse shirt, wide striped tie, and dark suit alongside the 8mm film palette are consistent with mid-1970s American fashion; white alb and purple stole mark a Christian liturgical officiant.

Home-movie behavior

A family member filmed the ceremony at close range, capturing the intimate stillness of the vow exchange rather than staging a formal composed shot.

What appears in frame

Older officiant in white alb and purple stole holding an open liturgical book, younger man in dark suit with yellow shirt and striped tie, partially visible blonde woman in dark attire, stone-block wall background.

Film character

8mm stock renders the scene with characteristic soft focus, gentle colour saturation, and fine grain, lending the footage an intimate period-authentic texture throughout.

Edit role

Works as a close insert on the officiant reading or a cutaway to the couple during a narrated passage on 1970s American family life or marriage customs.

Historical context

Mid-1970s American wedding attire — informal dark suit rather than a tuxedo, bright-coloured shirt — reflects the era's relaxed dress conventions; liturgical vestments suggest a Catholic or mainline Protestant rite.
