Woman At Pier And Lion-Tail Monkey In Cage — Clip Details

Shot on 8mm film in 1957, this vintage home movie captures a woman in a light-colored coat and pearl earrings smiling at the camera under a wooden pier with ocean waves crashing behind her. The scene transitions to a lion-tail monkey in a chain-link enclosure, with a sign identifying it as a Macaca silenus from Western India. The monkey is seen sitting and moving within its cage, viewed through the wire mesh. The footage exhibits classic Super 8 film grain, color fading, and slight camera shake, offering authentic archival footage of a mid-century zoo visit and seaside outing.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Useful for 1950s San Francisco home-movie requests needing a brief seaside visitor moment and zoo animal cutaway for documentary or education edits.
Period detail: The clip shows 1957 8mm color footage with mid-century visitor filming, a chain-link animal enclosure, and a sign identifying a lion-tail monkey.
Home-movie behavior: The footage has an unstaged visitor-shot quality, moving from a posed woman at the pier to handheld views of a monkey through zoo fencing.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a lion-tail monkey, chain-link mesh, enclosure posts, a wooden platform, a green identification sign, shadows, and planted enclosure areas.
Film character: The scan carries 8mm grain, mild color fading, soft focus, uneven exposure, and slight handheld movement consistent with home-movie filming.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short insert, transition, or memory beat between San Francisco travel footage and zoo or animal-observation sequences.
Historical context: The clip reflects a mid-century leisure outing that combines waterfront filming with visitor views of a caged zoo animal.
Research note: People, an animal identification sign, and zoo context require review for likeness, location, signage, and any separate copyright or property considerations.
Research search match: Searches for 1957 San Francisco 8mm home movie, vintage zoo monkey cage, lion-tail monkey enclosure, and mid-century pier visitor footage may match this clip.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with the same reel, then with 1957 San Francisco footage, then with mid-century zoo, animal enclosure, or seaside outing material.
