Sea Lions Performing Tricks, Jumping Through Ring of Fire — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm footage from California USA in 1962 captures a sea lion trainer in a white uniform directing a performance. Several sea lions stand on striped platforms in a wet arena, with one leaping through a flaming ring over water. The scene features classic circus props, including a large white toilet and a red barrel, under bright daylight. The film exhibits natural grain, color fading, and slight motion blur typical of home movie footage from the era, evoking a nostalgic mid-century entertainment atmosphere.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports 1960s California entertainment requests needing animal-performance footage for documentary, education, or editorial sequences.
Period detail: The white trainer uniform, striped platforms, simple props, and 8mm color home-movie look place the scene in a mid-century public animal show setting.
Home-movie behavior: The elevated, slightly distant framing suggests a visitor filming a live sea lion act from the audience rather than a staged production setup.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a white-uniformed trainer, sea lions on striped stands, a flaming hoop, a water pool, a white toilet prop, a red barrel, and arena walls.
Film character: The clip has soft 8mm color, visible grain, mild fading, motion blur, and handheld framing that preserve the texture of a scanned home movie.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief insert, novelty cutaway, or memory beat for mid-century leisure, animal acts, or public entertainment.
Historical context: The footage shows a public sea lion trick performance, reflecting mid-century family entertainment practices without identifying a specific venue.
Research note: A trainer is visible and animal-performance context may need review for likeness, venue, and animal-use sensitivities separate from copyright status.
Research search match: Useful for searches such as 1960s California sea lion show, vintage 8mm animal act, flaming hoop trick, and home movie marine entertainment.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent same-reel amusement footage, then 1962 California public entertainment, then broader animal show or circus-style performance clips.
