Nebraska USA-1957: Young Man And Woman Having A Pleasant Conversation Near A Christmas Tree

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

Suits documentary or editorial requests for authentic 1950s American domestic life during the Christmas holiday season, especially mid-century family and home interior material.

Period detail

Heavy black-rimmed eyeglasses, plaid flannel shirt, and the woman's dark dress with scarf are consistent with mid-to-late 1950s American domestic fashion.

Home-movie behavior

Subjects appear only partially aware of the camera, conveying the relaxed, unguarded intimacy that distinguishes private family documentation from staged footage.

What appears in frame

Young man in plaid shirt and black-rimmed glasses, woman in dark dress and purple scarf, floral upholstered couch, brass table lamp with beige shade, decorated Christmas tree with multicolored lights, and holiday greenery.

Film character

Warm color shift, visible grain, and lens bloom from the Christmas tree lights give the footage the soft, saturated look characteristic of consumer 8mm stock from the late 1950s.

Edit role

Works as an intimate memory beat or holiday interstitial; the overexposed Christmas tree pan can function as a standalone festive establishing insert.

Historical context

Living room furnishings, clothing, and tree-decorating style reflect mid-century American domestic culture, a domestic setting rarely captured in broadcast or newsreel footage of this era.

Research note

Identifiable adult faces are visible and subjects may still be living; private residential interior is shown; confirm rights chain with submitter and seek talent clearance before editorial use.
