Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: Supports 1970s editorial requests for visitor-shot footage of a preserved World War II submarine in Cleveland.
Period detail: The 1974 home-movie view shows painted signage, hull number 224, and campaign-style markings on the USS Cod display.
Home-movie behavior: The handheld tilt and close framing suggest a visitor documenting the submarine from below rather than a staged tour view.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include the USS Cod sign, conning tower rails, mast equipment, dark hull, large 224 numerals, ribbon grid, sky, and film-frame borders.
Film character: The 8mm scan carries soft grain, blue color shift, uneven exposure, and slight handheld blur typical of small-gauge home movies.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief establishing insert, naval-history cutaway, or memory beat within a Cleveland or wartime-remembrance sequence.
Historical context: The clip shows a public-facing submarine display that connects mid-1970s leisure travel with visible World War II naval memory.
Research note: No people are visible, but the USS Cod name, vessel markings, and military-themed display should be reviewed for copyright, trademark, and contextual use.
Research search match: Useful search phrases include 1974 Cleveland USS Cod submarine sign, 8mm naval museum footage, WWII submarine hull number 224, and vintage visitor film.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then Cleveland 1974 material, then preserved military vessel or naval museum footage.
