Las Vegas USA-1977: View Overlooking A Large And Protected Marina With Boats And Docks

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit

This clip suits documentary or commercial productions needing 1970s elevated-perspective marina and recreational boating infrastructure footage, likely from the American Southwest.

Period detail

The faded purple 8mm emulsion and 1970s-era dock construction visible in the frames are consistent with the stated 1977 date; the large marina on open water may be a desert-reservoir facility.

Home-movie behavior

Shot from a fixed elevated vantage point—possibly a building or observation deck—this has the quality of a visitor recording a scenic panorama rather than staged documentation.

What appears in frame

Rows of moored boats fill organized finger slips, a central marina channel divides the basin, a flat-roofed building sits near the waterfront, and open flat water extends to a low horizon.

Film character

A pervasive blue-purple colour cast from aged 8mm emulsion, visible grain throughout, and slight motion blur during the slow pan give the footage its unmistakably analogue archival texture.

Edit role

Works as an establishing cutaway or transition insert for 1970s American recreational boating, leisure marina culture, or desert-lake water recreation sequences.

Historical context

Recreational boating infrastructure expanded significantly around reservoir lakes in the American Southwest in the 1970s; if near Las Vegas, this may document a desert-lake marina such as those on Lake Mead.

Research note

No identifiable individuals or legible signage are visible; the marina facilities and any buildings shown are private or commercial property whose clearance status should be independently confirmed.

Research search match

Researchers may search for 1970s marina aerial view, vintage boating dock footage, American Southwest water recreation, or 8mm waterfront nostalgia film.

Archive pairing path

Pair first with other clips from the same 1977 reel; then with Nevada or desert-lake recreation footage from the same era; then with broader American marina and boating clips of the 1970s.
