Three-Masted Sailing Ship Passing Sailboat at Sea — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1976 in New York City, capturing a classic maritime scene. A small sailboat with people aboard navigates calm waters, passing a massive three-masted sailing ship with full sails unfurled. The film exhibits characteristic Super 8 grain, color fading, and slight motion blur, with a dark border framing the shot. The overcast sky and gentle waves create a nostalgic, mid-20th century nautical atmosphere, ideal for historical or retro-themed projects.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: This clip supports 1970s New York City maritime archive requests needing home-movie footage of sailboats and a large three-masted sailing ship on open water for documentary, museum, education, or editorial use.
Period detail: The 8mm frame edges, muted color, small recreational sailboat, and distant tall ship may show a 1970s harbor or waterfront outing consistent with the supplied 1976 New York City metadata.
Home-movie behavior: The footage has a visitor-shot perspective from another boat or shoreline vantage, lingering on the passing sailing vessels rather than staging action for the camera.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a small sailboat with people aboard, a large three-masted sailing ship under sail, open water with light chop, a hazy skyline or shoreline, overcast sky, and dark 8mm frame borders.
Film character: The clip carries archival physical-film texture through soft focus, visible grain, color fading, handheld drift, gate edges, and occasional motion blur across the short sequence.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a maritime insert, harbor cutaway, travel-memory beat, or transitional shot between broader New York City waterfront material and sailing or bicentennial-era atmosphere.
Historical context: The scene records recreational viewing of a large sailing vessel in New York City waters, offering visual context for public waterfront activity without confirming a specific event or vessel identity from the frames alone.
Research note: People are visible at a distance on the small sailboat, so likeness review may be needed, while no readable logos or obvious private property are visible and copyright clearance remains separate from depicted-person considerations.
Research search match: Relevant searches include 1976 New York City harbor home movie, 8mm tall ship passing sailboat, 1970s maritime footage, vintage sailboat on water, and three-masted sailing ship home movie.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then with other 1976 New York City waterfront clips, and then with broader 1970s sailing, harbor, travel, or maritime home-movie material.
