Sea Promenade With Blue Sky — Clip Details

Vintage 8mm home movie footage from 1976 captures the New York City skyline from a moving boat on the water. The iconic Empire State Building stands prominently against a blue sky, surrounded by other mid-century skyscrapers and industrial structures. The grainy, slightly blurry image with a distinct blue color cast and film grain is characteristic of amateur Super 8 footage. Small boats dot the water in the foreground, and the camera pans slowly across the cityscape, offering a nostalgic, personal perspective of the urban landscape from the Hudson River.

Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: This 1970s 8mm New York City waterfront skyline clip suits documentary or museum requests for visitor-shot urban establishing footage from a moving boat.
Period detail: The visible Empire State Building, mid-century high-rises, industrial waterfront structures, and small boats may show the Manhattan skyline as seen from the water in the 1970s.
Home-movie behavior: The footage carries the unstaged value of a traveler or passenger filming the city skyline from a boat rather than a composed professional vantage point.
What appears in frame: Across the frames, the clip shows blue sky, dark water, small boats, a moving skyline view, the Empire State Building, rectangular high-rises, waterfront buildings, and film-frame borders.
Film character: The scan has visible 8mm grain, soft focus, blue color cast, gate edges, slight exposure variation, and handheld motion that give it recognizable home-movie texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a brief establishing insert, river-transition shot, skyline cutaway, or memory beat for 1970s New York City material.
Historical context: The clip documents a personal waterborne view of New York City’s dense commercial skyline and waterfront without showing identifiable people or street-level activity.
Research note: No people, logos, or private interiors are visible, but landmark, skyline, copyright, and property-context questions should still be reviewed for the intended use.
Research search match: Likely researcher searches include 1970s 8mm New York City skyline from boat, Empire State Building home movie, Manhattan waterfront Super 8, and vintage Hudson River city view.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent shots from the same reel, then other 1976 New York City waterfront or skyline material, then broader vintage boat and urban travel footage.
