Archive Intelligence

Archive brief fit: This 1960s 8mm home-movie clip helps answer requests for Midwestern summer recreation, lake swimming, and outdoor memory material for documentary or educational edits.
Period detail: The light swim cap, simple swimsuit silhouette, saturated 8mm color, and metadata-supported 1962 date may show early-1960s leisure filming in or near St. Paul, Minnesota.
Home-movie behavior: The clip has unstaged home-movie value in its close, casual view of a swimmer moving through lake water before the camera shifts to nearby trees.
What appears in frame: Visible elements include a light-capped swimmer in dark rippling water, a second swimmer or repeated view in the water, dense green trees, shaded trunks, dappled sunlight, and red flowers near the edge of the wooded view.
Film character: The footage shows characteristic 8mm grain, soft focus, slight exposure variation, saturated greens, and handheld framing that give the scene physical-film texture.
Edit role: An editor could use this as a short summer insert, a recreational cutaway, a transition from water to woods, or a brief personal-memory beat.
Historical context: The scene visually reflects informal outdoor leisure and amateur family filming without supporting any specific event, landmark, or named lake identification.
Research note: People and faces are visible but not identifiable with certainty, so likeness review may be needed separately from copyright and no property or brand clearance can be assumed from the frames alone.
Research search match: Relevant researcher searches include 1962 8mm lake swimming, St. Paul Minnesota home movie summer, woman in swim cap lake, and vintage family footage wooded lakeside.
Archive pairing path: Pair first with adjacent footage from the same reel, then with other 1962 St. Paul or Minnesota outdoor clips, then with broader summer swimming and wooded-lakeside home-movie material.
