About 27,000 swimming and water clips, peaking hard in the 1960s, when the backyard pool and the home camera reached the same suburbs at the same time.
Above-ground pools and public ones, lakes and garden hoses, kids cannonballing while a parent films from a lawn chair. California and New York lead, almost all on standard 8mm and Super 8.

Swimming footage suits summer and nostalgia campaigns, family and childhood documentaries, and period scenes that need a real backyard pool of the era. The cannonball and the poolside-crowd shots are the workhorses.
The 1950s are public-pool and a little formal, in early color. The 1960s, the peak, move into the backyard as above-ground pools spread. The 1970s warm up and loosen, the swimsuits smaller and the color softer.
