About this footage
Someone made a real film out of this July 1975 backpacking trip. It opens on a title card, "Agate Springs Base Camp," lettered over snowy peaks and a man in a cowboy hat at a roadside mailbox, and handwritten cards break up the reels with lines like "A dry day finally dawns."
The group spends most of the footage on foot. Hikers with packs climb rocky trails, cross a rushing stream on a fallen log. Climbers in plaid shirts and jeans work up a granite face on a rope. Camp scenes show yellow dome tents in a forest clearing, an older couple packing bright sleeping bags, and evenings around a campfire. Three riders on horseback cross a meadow below a big boulder, and the camera keeps stopping for close-ups of wildflowers and a bee on a yellow blossom.
The final card lists "The last day": breakfast, look back, smell of the flowers, feel of the backpack. Good material for stories on 1970s backpacking, group camping, or Montana's high country.
